Hollywood Hills

architect + builder

Situated on a hillside, the front yard rests below street level, the original house was left open and exposed to the street. The owners request for privacy was driven by their need to provide an outdoor play area for their children. The front bedroom was converted into a multipurpose room and allows the owners to use it as a playroom, office, sleeping, workout room. New sliding glass pocket doors and a corner window open views and access to the front yard play area. A new retaining wall finished with integral color smooth stucco was added to gain more play area and for visual privacy a translucent screen blocks outside views. During the day shadows from the magnolia tree can be seen from the street side. The remaining enclosure is an Iron Wood fence that provides a solid, secure enclosure for the entire front of the property.
